Hey everyone! I am Søren (Sören/Soren). I'm an Ásatrúar who also practises traditional non-Wiccan Nordic (Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden), Iceland and Finland) witchcraft. I was a teenager when I discovered Wicca, Voodoo and tarot for the first time. I remember originally owning cards with spell receipes and incantations on them then owning the book: Witchcraft: Theory and Practice by Ly de Angeles and a book on voodoo (if I remember correctly, came with an actual voodoo doll). I was also briefly introduced to tarot through a deck called Beginner's Tarot by Kathleen McCormack (It's out of print but it's not too hard to find on eBay and it's still relatively cheap to buy. By now, it may even be cheaper than what it originally cost.) and Egyptian Tarot (Lo Scarabeo). However, because my Swedish father forced me to get rid of them because I was still forced to be apart of a Christianity-based cult that colonised the state of Utah (USA) known as Mormonism (even though these days many Mormons don't like to be referred to as Mormon. It depends on who you ask). It wasn't until I came out as gay when I was 17 years old that I was able to free myself from Mormonism and any sort of organised religion. Unfortunately, this caused me to be incredibly disenchanted with any form of belief system, especially Abrahamism (Christianity-Judaism-Islam) that I wanted nothing to do with any religion whatsoever. I was an Atheist for 7 years before rediscovering witchcraft and then eventually tarot through doing a year and a day from studying Wicca before deciding that I wanted to practise witchcraft outside of the Wiccan framework and one that also incorporated folk magic and traditions from the Nordic countries. Being Scandinavian myself (half Danish and half Swedish) made me feel closer to this path. So I decided to practise Ásatrú but incorporate traditional witchcraft alongside it.
I had explored New Age belief systems as well but ultimately realised they weren't a good fit for me. So I'm not a New Ager nor a Wiccan even though I do follow, respect and have many friend who follow these paths.
I love learning and I am a perpetual student thirsty for knowledge, especially surrounding non-Abrahamic beliefs and how witchcraft is practised throughout the world.
